Create your own stamps! We will teach each other how to carve our own stamps. You will be surprised how easy it is. If you have them, please bring carving materials (smooth fine-textured erasers work well), linoleum cutters or sharp X-acto knives, images that you want to carve, paper, ink pads, and magnifying glasses.

Links for more information and materials:
http://www.stampeaz.c... for instructions, carving tools and PZ Cut (in white and orange) considered the best carving material.
http://www.dickblick.... also has carving material and tools.
Another source for carving instructions is Craftzine: http://www.cutoutandk... (added by lindamay).

The local Blick Stores on Broadway in Oakland and on University in Berkeley and Artist and Craftsman on Shattuck have supplies also. Caution, do not purchase the Speedball white carving material. It crumbles. Speedball pink is nice to carve. When purchasing carving materials in-store, check the surface to make sure there are no gouges or cuts as these can ruin your stamp. The stores just stack the carving material bare on the shelves so blemishes can happen easily. Staedler Mars puts out a three tool carving set that is very nice and can be found in the Blick Stores. Staedler Mars has a white vinyl eraser that is excellent carving material (though a bit expensive). They also have larger blocks of the same material that you can buy at www.dickblick.com. The most economical way to purchase carving material is in sheets and then you can cut pieces to size for your stamps.

Please feel free to email or call me with questions.

From lindamay: Those who attended the paper clay meetup last month?please bring back your creations, I would love to photograph them for the meetup site.

I loved working with the paper clay, so easy and endless possibilities for it's use.

Who attended?

    •  I felt like this meeting was more intimate with just having four members. Linda had great insight and tips on carving stamps. She shared many examples of stamps she has carved and out of a variety of meduims it definetly was an inspiration to us.
    •  This was a great meetup. Lots of ideas and resources to share. We met in the front of the Frank Bette Art Center and had lots of stimulus from the art surrounding us on the walls and the patrons who came through.
